Inflammatory conditions such as arthritis and other joint disorders are generally treated with non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs by prescription or over the counter. However, this particular treatment only treats the symptoms. They do not reverse the actual condition. Such non-steroidal drugs may lead to other problems like stomach ulcers and kidney dysfunction. The joint healing process is compromised while only taking an anti-inflammatory to conceal the problem.
Omega-3 fatty acid is a polyunsaturated fat which a number of people are turning to for relief and treatment of their joint disorders which compromise joint mobility and cause pain. The polyunsaturates in Omega-3 fatty acids like fish oil have abilities to act as an anti-inflammatory in a significant way. Omega-3 will suppress inflammation production. Omega-3 fatty acids are naturally found in oily fish, nuts and seeds, and green leafy vegetables. There are several health issues which are said to benefit from Omega-3 fatty acids. Besides being used as a joint health supplement, Omega-3 fatty acids may protect against heart disease, macular degeneration, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, and even various types of cancer.
Using joint health supplements like Omega-3 fatty acids will reduce morning pain and stiffness while increasing joint mobility. Clinical studies have proven such a scenario for patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. The conclusion of such studies proved that Omega-3 fatty acids caused a reduction of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory uses as well as corticosteroid intake.
The disease known as rheumatoid arthritis is an auto-immune malady which can affect someone at any age. The failing of the immune systems allows the body to damage it own tissue. As a result, inflammations to the joint linings occur. Other parts of the body can also be affected. Initial research on Omega-3 fatty acid concentrated on the benefit it would have on people with rheumatoid arthritis. There is proven evidence showing that Omega-3 fatty acids reduce pain and stiffness while adding joint mobility. As a result, a lower intake of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs would be needed.
Later research concentrated on the benefit Omega-3 fatty acids would have on a common condition called osteoarthritis. This form of arthritis is a deterioration of the joint cartilage which cushions the bones from rubbing together. The level of damage and discomfort is different for everyone afflicted with osteoarthritis. The random trials performed in the later 90’s for the use of Omega-3 fatty acids and osteoarthritis concluded this supplement, when taken for a three month period, significantly reduced joint stiffness and pain.
The numerous trials to study the benefits of joint health supplements as found in Omega-3 fatty acids have addressed both the origins and pain associated with arthritis. Such inflammatory diseases benefited from the intake of Omega-3 supplements. Fish oil supplements contain Omega-3 properties and are not only affordable to consumers, this supplement will reduce inflammation caused by arthritis. Joint mobility is enhanced and pain is minimized.
