- Fast food myths are numerous, and can be outrageous
- Many of the same fast food myths are told about different restaurants
- Fast food myths range from disgusting to really weird and completely unbelievable
1. KFC Is Not Really Chicken
One myth about fast food concerns Kentucky Fried Chicken, which changed the name to KFC instead. The myth states that the name change was due to no chickens being used. According to this myth, instead of normal chickens mutant animals with abnormally large breasts and no beaks are kept in a tube while growing and then harvested. The name was actually changed to eliminate the word fried, which is considered unhealthy.
2. MacDonalds Uses Embalming Fluid in the Food
One weird and disturbing fast food myth is that fast food giant MacDonalds uses embalming fluid. According to the myth this fluid is used by the restaurant to preserve the food served so that there is less waste and the food does not spoil. This is untrue, and this restaurant is the most wasteful when it comes to discarding food.
3. A Pass from the Health Department Means Safe Food
A common myth many believe is that if a fast food joint passes inspection and gets an A grade from the Health Department the food is safe to eat. Unfortunately many places involved in food poisoning epidemics have passed every inspection. Health inspections are no guarantee of cleanliness or food quality and safety.
4. Fast Food Is Always Unhealthy Food
A big myth is that fast food is always unhealthy. The choices you make at a restaurant can determine whether you eat healthy or not. There are a number of foods you can choose at a fast food place that are healthier than many foods from the grocery store.
5. Salads Are Always A Healthy Choice
This fast food myth can be harmful, because not all salads are created equal. This myth allows you to eat high fat and high salt foods and consider it healthy. Most of the time salads are a healthier alternative to greasy burgers and fries, but not always. Look at the salt, carb, and fat information to determine if any food choice is healthy.
6. MacDonalds Uses Alternative Meat Sources
There are several varieties of this myth. Some say that this fast food giant uses crushed worms as filler, while other versions use kangaroo meat as the alternative source. Both of these are false, and the fast food chain owns beef farms to provide the meat needed.
7. MacDonalds Adds Addictive Chemicals to Their Food
Many fast food myths concern MacDonalds. One of these myths is that the restaurant adds addictive chemicals to the food, so that patrons will come back and spend more money. Some foods do have addictive elements, but they are natural. This includes the caffeine naturally found in tea and coffee.
8. Fast Food Is Sanitary
This myth is commonly believed, and it is false. Many fast food restaurants have drive thru windows which open, and insects can enter the kitchen area and come in contact with the food being prepared. In addition, food workers usually talk while preparing food, which can mean saliva droplets that land on the food.
9. Fast Food Makes You Fat
Lately there has been a link reported between fast food and obesity, and this has led to the myth that fast food will make you fat. What you eat and the amount of exercise you get, as well as your natural metabolic rate, will determine whether you gain, lose, or maintain weight. Smart choices can be made anywhere, at home or a fast food place.
10. War Does Not Occur Between Countries That Have a MacDonalds
This common fast food myth makes the assumption that a country will be less likely to war with another country if both have a MacDonalds located there. These fast food restaurants are common, and located in a large number of countries around the world. Leaders do not take this factor into consideration, and there have been countries at war in the world who had franchises located here.

I don’t know who can believe that burgers are made with kangaroo meat.. how dumb you gotta be)
KFC move is a smart one
enjoy your food))))
i think #10 is the funniest. it’s like – look they have opened mcdonalds, lets not bomb them anymore;) this world could have been really peaceful if this worked though
to grob32
Yeah, spread peace and love with McDonalds)
I mean really, how cheap could Kangaroo meat be? Surely not cheaper than beef.
Also, i could have sworn KFC started changing their name back.
Okay i enjoyed this post very much. I didn’t really think about it before but the choices you make at a fast food restaurant really determines how healthy or unhealthy your experience is with them.
It also made me feel a bit hesitant about the saliva droplets that could be in my food from the coworkers.
lol for 10. War Does Not Occur Between Countries That Have a McDonalds
LOL The whole “two countries with McDonalds will not go to war with each other” theory is actually not directly related to the Golden Arches.
It has to do with what McDonalds represents, mainly capitalism and free trade. The actually theory is that capitalistic countries with a decent fair trade policy will not go to war with each other. It has become linked with McDonalds because A) they are prolific and probably one of the best examples of exported business and culture and B) when a country opens it’s borders to foreign trade it is usually in the first wave of new business.
Actually you can get kangaroo burgers and they are good.
the mcdonalds theory actually that if two countries have mcdonalds it means they are economically interdependent and thus less likely to go to war.
So really, it has to be said that not all fast food is bad for you. You really just have to watch what you eat when you are going to eat fast food. Do not get the larger sizes, just be moderate about it.
Although I do not eat a lot of fast food, I can definitely see how this article would benefit a lot of people. Heck, it benefited me and although I do not eat McDonald’s a lot, it absolutely opened my eyes up to a lot!
Now, I have to talk about that lawsuit that, that one lady had against McDonald’s because she said they made her fat. If you do not want to be fat, eat fast food like McDonald’s in moderation people!
I can’t stand people that try and sue other people for things that are clearly their fault. Actually, I can’t stand the fact that they win, it’s insane that someone can honestly stand somewhere and say “yes, I know I could have stopped eating, but if they wouldn’t have made the food to begin with I would have been fine.”
okay tim, here’s where you’re completely wrong. The lady sued McDonald’s because of their ignorance regarding posting accurate and front-counter-accessible nutritional information. She probably ate chicken sandwiches and salads because McDonald’s leads you to believe those choices are a healthy alternative to, say, a Big Mac; therefore, she had a right to take legal action.
I think people are spooked by all the bad stories you hear about fast food. I used to work in an upscale hotel restaurant, and if you could have seen the kitchen, you wouldn’t be so quick to judge a fast food place. More grease and roaches than you can imagine. I won’t say who it was, and hopefully they’ve cleaned up their act by now.
I dont know maybe is true but you can take cancer from fast food!
Hey Everybody…My chiropractor bought a fast food burger and leaves it on his counter to show others how well they last and last and last. No refrigeration, etc. Something to THINK about!!!!
I couldn’t agree more great stuff here.
Thanks for the sharing! Your article really assisted me.
This is completely a gigantic issue. It truly talked to me yesterday, so thank you.
